Practice Overview:
John is an Of Counsel Attorney of Dell, Moser, Lane & Loughney, LLC, and concentrates his practice on civil litigation and appellate work.

Mr. Williams has been lead counsel in more than 90 appeals, and he is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth and Ninth Circuits, as well as the appellate courts for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. After clerking for the Pennsylvania Superior Court, his appellate work has spanned a wide variety of topics and issues, including insurance coverage and bad faith, product liability, corporate fiduciary duties, civil rights and prosecutorial misconduct, legal malpractice, immigration law, and mandamus/prohibition practice, as well as a multitude of appeals that turned on the application of procedural and evidentiary rules interpretations. He has represented Fortune 500 companies, judges, law firms and other attorneys, as well as a variety of smaller companies and individuals, before both federal and state appellate courts in three decades of practice.

His civil litigation practice has focused on defending manufacturers of products, from locomotive and automobile manufacturers and distributors, to manufacturers, distributors and retailers of power tools, ceiling fans, and electrically heated home and kitchen appliances and products. But Mr. Williams has also dedicated a substantial portion of this practice to insurance coverage litigation, for both insurers and insureds. In 2006, he obtained a verdict of bad faith against an insurance company that included a verdict of $20 million for bad faith punitive damages, in addition to an award for compensatory damages and attorney fees, that was the largest bad faith verdict ever obtained in Pennsylvania and which was not surpassed for more than a decade.

Additionally, Mr. Williams has taught many CLE classes on topics including Appellate Practice, Insurance Coverage, Insurance Litigation, and Civil Procedure.

Background:
John is a 1990 graduate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He was President of the Student Bar Association and was awarded the Order of the Barrister for outstanding performance in courtroom competitions. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Edinboro University in 1983.
